Pittsburgh, PA - PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists the bridge and westbound ramps connecting Route 2048 (Business Route 22) to the main entrance to Monroeville Mall and the Expo Mart in the municipality of Monroeville, Allegheny County, will be closed beginning on Monday, May 19, 2008.
The closure will begin at midnight on Sunday night, May 18. The bridge and ramps to and from westbound Route 22 will remain closed around-the-clock through noon on Friday, May 23, 2008. The eastbound on and off ramps from Route 22 to the Monroeville Mall and Expo Mart will remain open and will not be affected at this time.
The closures are necessary to allow crews to conduct concrete repairs and mill and resurface the bridge and westbound ramps. Crews will work around-the-clock to complete the work and minimize impacts to the traveling public. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the closure. Mall Boulevard will be used as a detour to access the Monroeville Mall and Expo Mart during the temporary closure (see attached map).
The overall $7.7 million project includes milling of existing bituminous pavement and concrete gutters, bituminous overlay, widening, drainage, guide rail, curb, traffic signals and signing, pavement marking, structure rehabilitation, and other miscellaneous construction on four miles of Route 2048 Business Route 22 from approximately 850 feet west of Route 2053 (Rodi Road) to approximately 450 feet west of Route 2057 (Haymaker Road). The prime contractor for the project is the Derry Construction Company, Inc. of Latrobe. The project will conclude in late 2008.
PennDOT advises motorists to use caution and slow down when traveling through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.
