Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that highway construction activities will be occurring this weekend, June 27-30, 2008, in Allegheny County. Below is a summary of the major closings and restrictions.
Motorists should allow extra time and plan their travels accordingly. Be prepared for highway work zones, slow down and be safe. All activities are weather permitting.
I-376 (Parkway East)
- No work or construction activities are currently scheduled on the Parkway East (I-376) in Allegheny County this weekend as part of the improvement project between Exits 7-10.
- No mainline work is scheduled.
- Traffic on Route 130 (Beulah Road) under the Parkway East between Route 2110 (William Penn Highway) and Churchill Road (Route 2104) will be restricted to a single lane in each direction around-the-clock through July 2.
- The Chestnut Street Bridge over the Parkway East will remain fully closed around-the-clock through next week. Traffic is be detoured using Elm Street to Pennwood Avenue to Edgewood Avenue to Oakview Street.

Single lane closures will occur on the Parkway East (I-376) in both directions between the Boulevard of the Allies (Exit 2) and Bates Street (Exit 3) from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 for median barrier repairs.

I-279 (Parkway West)
- Inspection activities on the I-279 Fort Pitt Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh will be postponed this weekend due to the Tour of PA Bike Race. Inspection activities will resume next weekend.
- The ramp from northbound Route 51/19 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) to the outbound (southbound) Parkway West (I-279) in the City of Pittsburgh will be closed this weekend beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, June 27, and will continue around-the-clock through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the closure. The posted detour will be:
- Continue northbound on Route 51/19 to the West End Circle
- Travel through West End Circle looping back to southbound Route 51
- Take the southbound ramp from Route 51 to the outbound Parkway West

Full Press Release: NORTHBOUND ROUTE 51/19 (SAW MILL RUN BOULEVARD) RAMP TO OUTBOUND PARKWAY WEST CLOSED THIS WEEKEND
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the outbound (southbound) Parkway West (I-279) in the area of the Route 121 (Greentree Road) interchange (Exit 4A) and the outbound Parkway West off-ramp to Greentree Road will be closed this weekend. Inbound traffic will not be affected at this time. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the off-ramp closure. Ramp traffic will be detoured using the Parkway Center exit (Exit 4B) from the outbound Parkway West prior to the Greentree interchange. The right lane, exit lane and ramp closure on the outbound Parkway West will occur according to the following schedule:
- June 27-28: Midnight Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday
- June 28-29: Midnight Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday
- June 29-30: 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday
- June 30-July 3: Nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday

I-279 (Parkway North)
- Traffic on outbound (northbound) Interstate 279 (Parkway North) in the area of the Route 19 overpass (Perrysville Avenue Bridge) in Ross Township will be reduced to single lane this weekend begin at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, June 27, and will continue around-the-clock through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30. The Parkway North carries three lanes of outbound traffic in this area. Two outbound lanes will be closed allowing one lane to remain open as crews continue work to paint the Route 19 overpass (Perrysville Avenue Bridge). Inbound traffic will not be affected at this time.

I-79
- Southbound Interstate 79 will be reduced to a single lane from the I-279 split to the Neville Island Bridge this weekend from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a. m. Monday
Route 65
- Traffic on northbound Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) is reduced to a single 11-foot wide lane in the area of the I-79 Neville Island Bridge and the on-ramp to Route 65 from the Kilbuck Street Viaduct is closed around-the-clock through mid-July. Signs are posted to guide motorists around the closed ramp to Route 65. The posted detour is:
- Take I-79 southbound to Exit 65 (Neville Island)
- Turn right onto Grand Avenue
- Follow signs to northbound I-79
- Re-enter I-79 northbound
- Take the I-79 northbound off-ramp to Route 65/Glenfield Road (Exit 66)

Forbes Avenue/Boulevard of the Allies
· Forbes Avenue (Route 2108) is reduced to a single lane from Moultrie Street to McDevitt Place (approximately 2,500 feet) around-the-clock through late August 2008 in the Oakland area of the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Traffic on Forbes Avenue is required to stop at the merge point with traffic from the Parkway East off-ramp (traffic from the Parkway East will be free-flowing).
· The bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over Forbes Avenue is also closed for replacement through this fall.
