Silks Saratoga Bistro is the newest Albany International Airport (ALB) eatery

Albany International Airport (ALB) - January 2010 - Silks Saratoga Bistro is a racetrack themed airport restaurant which just opened last month at Albany International Airport (ALB).

Silks is a full-service, proprietary airport restaurant concept developed by HMSHost specifically for
Albany International Airport. It is located in the main terminal, post security in the Times Square
area and is part of a ten-year food and beverage concession contract awarded to HMSHost, a world
leader in travel dining and shopping, in 2008.

"Travelers will find that HMSHost and the Airport have embrauced the heritage of the region with the
addition of Silks Saratoga Bistro. Silks represents a superb dining experience and is an excellent
start to our new partnership with HMSHost," said David E. Langdon, chairman of the Albany County
Airport Authority.

Silks’ menu features a number of selections from Albany’s finest restaurant, Jack’s Oyster
House including Jack’s Famous Caesar Salad, Jack’s Seafood Duo of broiled salmon and
seared scallops, Jack’s Finest Cowboy Steak and Jack’s Lump Crabmeat Martini. Guests will
find a selection of Old Saratoga Brewing Company beer on tap, in addition to cocktails, wine,
domestic and imported beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

A colorful thoroughbred statue—one from the Horses, Saratoga Style exhibit—welcomes guests at
Silks’ entrance, offering a sense of place of the Capitol Region and horse races for which it is
renowned. Also highlighting the entrance is a “rail” similar to the one that circles the Saratoga Race
Course. The restaurant’s décor imparts the excitement of the area’s racing history, from large wall
murals and framed replicas of “silks” worn by jockeys during Saratoga Races, to flat screen
televisions airing local horse races in real-time throughout the day.

In addition to the new Starbucks Coffee and a Dunkin’ Donuts which opened pre-security this
fall, HMSHost was scheduled to unveil a new Brioche Dorée Café Bakery on Concourse C later in December
and an Adirondack Lounge fast casual restaurant is slated to open on Concourse A in spring 2010. Another
locally-themed proprietary concept, Hudson Valley Wine Bar, will open on Concourse B next
spring as well.

Budget cuts at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) could mean delays for passengers

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) - September 2009 -- Proposed budget cuts are anticipated to be enacted for Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) due to declining revenues. The cuts will effect shuttle drivers and the staff that clears the runways during storms, so this could translate into airport delays for travelers. So be sure to check you flight arrival and departure times in advance at web sites like eXpectdelaYs.com before you head off to the airport, especially during bad weather. And be sure to allow some extra time if you rely on the on airport shuttle to get between terminals and to the Westin, and presumably to parking lots as well.

The Black Bear Saloon opens as Bradley International Airport's first sit-down full service restaurant (BDL)

Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, CT (BDL) (July 2009) - The Black Bear Saloon opened in Bradley International Airport terminal A on July 16, 2009. According to the airport press release, "This full service restaurant concept offers something for everyone including breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week, a child friendly menu, HD plasma televisions everywhere you turn, a variety of beer both bottled and on tap and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The Black Bear Saloon currently has other locations in Nyack, NY, White Plains, NY, Stamford, CT, South Norwalk, CT, Milford, CT, New Haven, CT, Hartford, CT." According to the Connecticut Post, they have a variety of bottled beer and beer on tap and a pub-like atmosphere.

As the Bradley International Airport web sites list of concessions does not list this restaurant, it is difficult to know how accurate this list is, but these are the airport restaurants and lounges that the Black Bear Saloon purportedly joins:
Terminal A - Boston Pizza, Dunkin' Donuts, Edy's Ice Cream, Einstein's Bagels, Fresh City, LavAzza Coffee & Pastry, Lock's Landing, Wicked Good Subs, McDonalds
Terminal B - Sundowner Cafe
Unfortunately, I have my doubts as to the accuracy of this list, as it doesn't really jive with the information given on the interactive map, also on the Airport's web site. Please comment if you know current, accurate information on these concessions. Thanks! - Gus
