The Ponemon institute recently conducted a study sponsored by Dell looking at laptop and data loss by travelers at airports.

June 30, 2008 - The Ponemon Institute recently released the results of a study regarding laptop and data loss in airports, and the policies and attitudes pertaining to these losses. The study is entitled: Airport Insecurity: The Case of Lost Laptops. You may have seen the headlines in the paper and on the web the past few days "12000 Laptops Lost At Airports Each Week". While this is the most shocking and most quoted portion of the study, the results are frightening and surprising - particularly with regard to the attitudes of people towards the data on their computers. A surprising number do not back up their data or secure their sensitive data. While the number of laptops lost at an airport seems to be at least in part a reflection of how busy the airport is, the top 5 large airports for weekly laptop loss are:LAX, Miami International, JFK, Chicago Ohare and Newark Liberty International Airport. The security checkpoint followed by the departure gate were the sites where laptops are most frequently lost. Other surprising results are that 67% of lost laptops are never recovered, and that only 1% of survey respondants has lost a laptop, yet 84% of respondants know someone who has lost a laptop. Hmmm...

For full details, you can read the actual report here: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/services/dell_lost_laptop_study.pdf

Remember - If you eXpect delaYs, you can beat them!
Happy Travels
- Gus

Service Reduction At LaGuardia, The Nation's Most Congested Airport, Intended To Help Reduce Delays For All Passengers

FORT WORTH , Texas - June 25, 2008 – American Airlines and its regional affiliate,
American Eagle, today announced additional details of their capacity
reductions for the fourth quarter of 2008. The reductions are in line
with American’s previously announced (May 21) plans of cutting fourth
quarter domestic capacity by 11 to 12 percent and regional affiliate
capacity by 10 to 11 percent versus fourth quarter 2007 levels. The
changes are being instituted to reduce costs and create a more
sustainable supply-and-demand balance in today’s high fuel-cost
environment.

Today’s announced reductions involve additional schedule changes
taking effect in November. Previously announced (May 27) reductions
will take effect in September.

American is reducing flights at most of its principal operations.
This announcement, combined with the previously announced round of
schedule reductions, means American will close its operations entirely
at three of its airports, while Eagle will close five of its airports,
out of a combined total of 250 airports for both. The airports/cities
being closed are:

American – Oakland, Calif. (previously announced); London Stansted (previously announced); and Barranquilla , Colombia

American Eagle – Albany, N.Y.; Providence, R.I.; Harrisburg, Pa.;
Samana, Dominican Republic (previously announced); and San Luis Obispo,
Calif. American Eagle will also close its maintenance base in San Luis
Obispo.

American plans to reduce its departures in Chicago by 28 flights
with American Eagle reducing 34 departures. In St. Louis, American will
reduce departures by 8 flights with American Eagle and
AmericanConnection reducing 35 departures. American will reduce 19
departures at Dallas/Fort Worth along with 23 American Eagle flight
reductions.

The company also has decided to eliminate five AA flights and 37
American Eagle jet departures at LaGuardia Airport. In addition to the
expected cost savings, these changes, coupled with appropriate
government action, could allow the airport to operate with less chronic
disruption and improve customer experience at one of the nation’s most
congested airports.

“Today, the dependability and delay issues that exist at LaGuardia
have reached a crisis point and have a daily negative impact on the
overall customer service and performance for every airline with flights
at LaGuardia,” said Bob Reding, American’s Executive Vice President –
Operations.

Historical data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics on
operational performance at LaGuardia highlights the issues. During the
last five years, for example, delays at LaGuardia have increased 50
percent and now occur on one out of every four departures, with these
delays averaging more than one hour. In large part, these delays are
attributable to Air Traffic Control’s inability to handle the scheduled
service levels.

American and American Eagle regret the potential impact these
schedule changes will have on its people. The company is in the process
of determining the overall impact on its employees, and it is the
company’s intent to offer voluntary programs before moving to
involuntary separations.

More fallout from the new baggage fees - US Airways airport skycaps lose their jobs

July 1, 2008 - As US Airways begins to institute additional baggage fees ($15 for the first checked bag) they will replace the current skycaps with unionized airline employees. This change appears to be due to contract issues regarding the collection of fees. In addition to the new baggage fees, they will still charge $2 per bag for curb-side check-in, so don't worry you still get to pay more than the folks who go inside for this "convenience". It is not clear if there will be any delays in the conversion from curbside skycaps to curbside airline employees, but just to be safe we suggest you allow a little more time during the transition in case you find that you need to go inside. This is in addition to the extra time we suggest you allow while the airlines transition to collecting these additional baggage charges overall. Some of the airports to affected are: Pittsburgh International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, DFW, Boston Logan International Airport.

Don't worry - the good news with respect to the lines is that with fewer flights and higher prices, there's a chance there will be fewer people waiting to pay these charges!

Remember, if you eXpect delaYs you can beat them!
Happy Travels!
-Gus

Continental Airlines now offers reduced fee for last minute flight changes

HOUSTON, June 26, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Continental Airlines
(NYSE: CAL) today announced a new policy allowing customers to make changes to
flights within 24 hours of their original scheduled departure for a discounted
change fee. Within the 24-hour same-day period, customers with restricted
tickets may change to another flight departing within 12 hours for the
discounted fee. Continental previously allowed customers to choose from
flights departing within three hours.

Continental's fee for same-day flight changes represents a significant
discount off the change fees that normally apply to restricted tickets. The
fee will be $50, or $25 for Continental's OnePass Platinum and Gold Elite
members. This fee will apply to all itineraries wholly operated by
Continental, including Continental Express, Continental Connection and
Continental Micronesia. Travelers with unrestricted tickets, or fares without
penalties for making changes, may make changes free of charge, if seats are
available.

If there are no seats available to be confirmed, customers may still
standby. In these cases, the fee is still applicable, but will only be
charged if a seat is cleared on the earlier flight.

The same-day change option is available 24 hours before the original
scheduled flight and remains available until that flight is closed for check-
in. Inside of this timeframe, customers may select another flight that
departs earlier, later, or even on a different day, so long as it departs no
more than 12 hours from when the request is made.

Same-day flight changes may be confirmed when checking in at
continental.com, by contacting the Continental Airlines reservations office,
at any airport kiosk or with a Continental airport representative. For
details and frequently asked questions regarding Continental's same-day change
policy, please see the Important Notices section of continental.com.

CHICAGO, June 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines
(NYSE: CAL) and United Airlines (Nasdaq: UAUA) today announced a framework
agreement to cooperate extensively, linking their networks and services
worldwide to the benefit of customers, and creating revenue opportunities and
cost savings and other efficiencies. In addition, Continental plans to join
United in the Star Alliance, the most comprehensive airline alliance in the
world.

"Continental's plan to partner with United and join the Star Alliance will
provide substantial new opportunities for all of our customers," said Larry
Kellner, chairman and CEO of Continental. "In a network business, there is
significant value gained from linking with larger networks to provide truly
national coverage and expanded global reach, and exploring new ways to reduce
costs and improve efficiencies. As we experience some of the most challenging
conditions airlines have ever faced, we look forward to the benefits of a new
relationship with United and the other Star Alliance members."

Teams from the two organizations worked intensively over the last several
weeks exploring creative solutions for how the two companies could achieve
efficiencies and synergies that expand beyond the well-established benefits of
codesharing. Their work focused on plans for significant cooperation on
frequent flier programs, lounges, facility utilization, information technology
and procurement. This work was assisted by the efficiency opportunities
identified and relationships developed during the parties' earlier merger
discussions.

    Antitrust Immunized Joint Ventures

Through this new partnership, Continental and United plan to establish
joint ventures allowing them to cooperate with each other and with other Star
Alliance airlines in international regions and compete more effectively in an
increasingly global air travel market.

Initially, Continental will request the U.S. Department of Transportation
(DOT) to allow it to join United -- along with Lufthansa, Air Canada and six
other carriers -- in their already established antitrust immunized alliance.
This will enable Continental, United, Lufthansa, Air Canada and other
immunized Star Alliance carriers to work closely together as other antitrust
immunized alliances do, and to establish trans-Atlantic and other
international joint ventures so they can deliver highly competitive flight
schedules, fares and service. The planned trans-Atlantic joint venture, in
which Continental, United, Lufthansa and Air Canada will pool revenue, will
permit the carriers to compete more effectively with the proposed joint
venture involving certain SkyTeam members that was recently granted antitrust
immunity. The trans-Atlantic joint venture will combine the strength of the
carriers to create a more efficient and comprehensive trans-Atlantic network
for the carriers' customers.

Joint ventures are also planned for the Latin America and Asia/Pacific
regions, involving Continental, United and other members of the Star Alliance.
Both antitrust immunity and code-sharing are subject to receipt of approvals
from applicable national authorities.

Domestic Codesharing and Frequent Flier/Lounge Reciprocity

Continental's and United's route networks are highly complementary, with
little overlap, so they add value to each other and to customers who are
planning domestic and international itineraries.

In the United States domestic market, where antitrust immunity for solely
domestic travel would not apply, the two airlines plan to begin broad
code-sharing, which facilitates the creation of itineraries using both
carriers, as well as frequent Flier program, elite customer recognition and
airport lounge reciprocity. These cooperative activities are subject to
regulatory notice to applicable authorities and Continental exiting certain of
its current alliance relationships. Under code-sharing, customers will benefit
from a coordinated process for reservations/ticketing, check-in, flight
connections and baggage transfer.

Frequent flier reciprocity will allow members of Continental's OnePass
program and United's Mileage Plus program to earn miles in their accounts when
flying on either partner airline and redeem awards on both carriers. Travel on
either carrier will count toward elite customer recognition. Similarly, each
carrier's customers will have access to both Continental's Presidents Club
network and United's Red Carpet Club network of airport lounges.

    Continental Joining Star Alliance

Continental's plans to join the Star Alliance and the other planned
cooperation are subject to receipt of certain regulatory and other approvals
and the termination of certain contractual relationships, including
Continental's existing agreements with SkyTeam members that restrict its
participation in another global alliance. Continental intends to terminate its
existing agreements with SkyTeam members and obtain the necessary approvals to
enter the Star Alliance, although Continental may not be successful, and the
time period for doing so may be out of Continental's control. For example, a
principal contractual restriction will not terminate until nine months after
the closing of the proposed Delta/Northwest merger. Continental intends to
transition out of SkyTeam and into the Star Alliance in a customer friendly
manner.

Joining the Star Alliance will connect Continental with United and 19
other airlines around the world. Within Star, frequent Fliers enjoy
reciprocity with respect to both mileage accrual and redemption among the
member airlines. The airlines also reciprocally recognize elite status, and
provide access to the worldwide network of lounges operated by the Star
Alliance airlines.

    About the Star Alliance

The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 as the first truly
global airline alliance to offer customers worldwide reach and a smooth travel
experience. Star Alliance received the Air Transport World Market Leadership
Award in 2008 and was voted Best Airline Alliance by Business Traveller
Magazine in 2003, 2006 and 2007 and by Skytrax in 2003, 2005 and 2007. The
members are Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines,
Austrian, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shanghai
Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAP
Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, United and US Airways. Regional member
carriers Adria Airways (Slovenia), Blue1 (Finland) and Croatia Airlines
enhance the global network. Air India and EgyptAir have been accepted as
future members. Overall, the Star Alliance network offers nearly 18,000 daily
flights to 965 destinations in 162 countries.

    About Continental

Continental Airlines provides more than 3,100 flights a day on Continental
and Continental Express to more than 280 U.S. and international destinations
from its hubs in New York/Newark, Houston, Cleveland and Guam. Continental is
the world's fifth largest airline, with routes throughout the Americas, Europe
and Asia. With more than 45,000 employees, Continental carries approximately
69 million passengers per year. For more company information, visit

It's been a busy few days in air travel
news. Minneapolis – St. Paul International Airport rolls out new 3
lane security screening (expert (aka “Black Diamond”), casual
traveler and family lanes - this has been in operation since late
April in Pittsburgh as well0; Allegheny Airport Exec Pitches
Pittsburgh International Airport; Niagara Falls International Airport
gets a big upgrade; St. Louis Airport to get new dining venues;
Portland International Airport opens a Rogue Ales Public House (i.e.
some good beer and grub) and a New York style Deli / Restaurant.

At airport, one lane doesn't fit all

Minneapolis – St. Paul International
Airport (May 16, 2008): Self-selected security lanes for travelers,
chosen by how well they think they know the security checkpoint
routine, opened at Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport on
Friday. When the security checkpoint line was busy early Friday
afternoon, Brandy Brant, a traveler from St. Louis, slipped into the
"expert" lane. It's one of three newly designated lanes
among the terminal's six security checkpoints; passengers also can
opt for a "casual traveler" and "family" lane. A
friend of hers chose the "casual" lane and took 10 minutes
longer than Brant to get to the other side. Security screeners
directing traffic often pointed travelers toward one lane or another,
but the choice remains with the traveler. Erickson said travelers
commonly end up at the security checkpoints in the middle of the
ticketing level, which are near some of the busier Northwest Airlines
check-in counters. Wareham thinks that families in particular will
like the new system, as they won't feel so pressured to speed it up.
By August, passengers passing through the ticketing level will notice
another new addition at the airport: a Houlihan's restaurant on the
pre-security side of the checkpoints.

delays as a platform for attracting flights to Pittsburgh
International Airport.

Niagara Falls International Airport
(May 17, 2008): Shovels in the ground Friday marked the beginning of
the end of a nine-year wait for a new passenger terminal at Niagara
Falls International Airport. "Fourteen months from now we'll be
welcoming charter flights, cargo operations and a new life for the
airport and the Buffalo Niagara region," he told a crowd packed
into the existing terminal. Maziarz said the biggest boost to get
the airport project going was a commitment from the Seneca Nation for
a steady flow of revenue from the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.
The new terminal will be a morale booster for the community, said
Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte, D-Lewiston. In addition to bringing
in more passenger flights, the NFTA is trying to drum up cargo
business, using as a draw its 10,000-foot runway, the third longest
in the state.

Lambert – St. Louis International
Airport (May 9, 2008): Continuing its effort to be more attractive
and amenable to its customers, Lambert-St. Louis International
Airport is planning a big makeover of about two dozen food and
beverage locations. The $16 million project is aimed at giving
passengers and visitors more upscale and local food choices, more
seats and better service — all part of a grand design to make
Lambert more user-friendly. As part of the agreement to continue
providing service at the airport, HMSHost would commit to spending
$13 million by 2011, and another $3 million by 2015, remodeling the
airport’s existing restaurants. Expected to be featured as part of
the renovation are local names such as Mosaic, Fitz’s and Imo’s
Pizza. Other recent offerings include the opening of two cell-phone
lots, rocking chairs placed throughout the airport and music
performances to entertain passengers and visitors.

****

Popular dining venues open at Portland
International Airport HMSHost brings local, regional and national
brands to Portland International Airport (PDX)

(HMSHost May 16, 2008) Portland
International Airport travelers now have two new popular dining
options from HMSHost Corporation, a world leader in travel dining and
shopping: Rogue Ales Public House, an award-winning regional brewery
and Rose’s Restaurant and Bakery, an established Portland landmark
“HMSHost has been a great partner to Portland International
Airport, bringing the restaurant brands our travelers recognize and
are pleased to find at our airport,” said Scott Kilgo, Senior
Manager of Concessions Development for the Port of Portland.
Travelers on the D Concourse are enjoying the new Rogue Ales Public
House and its on-tap menu of Hazelnut Brown Nectar, Dead Guy Ale,
American Amber and Morimoto Soba Ale, in addition to wine and
spirits. Rogue’s menu includes tasty to-go bites for hurried
travelers, and sit-down selections for those with more time.

Now open and offering authentic New
York-style full service deli fare, famous pastries, cakes and
desserts, Rose’s Restaurant and Bakery is also a favorite stop for
Concourse D travelers. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the menu
features the Reuben Sandwich, Pot Roast & Gravy, and Giant

This week, most of the announcement seem to concern San Diego International Airport. So if San Diego is in your immediate travel plans, read on:

Pittsburgh flights may lose 22 percent
of seats

Full story at:

Pittsburgh International Airport (May 15, 2008) - According to an analysis by airfare
expert Rick Seaney, who runs the travel Web site FareCompare.com,
Pittsburgh's number of available seats, or airline capacity, will be
down 22 percent in October compared with October 2007. That was the
sixth-highest --- or worst --- rate in the country among airports
with at least 3,000 available seats a day on their departing flights,
the analysis showed. Seaney's analysis showed there were 19,800
available seats on flights heading out of Pittsburgh on Monday, Oct.
8, 2007.

-----

Local artist’s work unveiled at San

Airport reception honors artist Mark
Richmond’s first public art commission in Terminal 1 and opening of cultural

San Diego International Airport (May
14, 2008) - The Airport Authority will host a reception to feature
local artist Mark Richmond on May 15, 2008. As part of the Airport
Art Cultural Exhibits Program, Richmond is exhibiting at the Commuter
Terminal from April 2008 through July 2008. In addition, his first
public art commission, “Winds of Change,” a 25’ x 9’ 6”
digital painting (pictured above) was installed in Terminal 1 in
February. Richmond’s paintings encompass multiple elements and
cultures mixed with an Asian-style script he has developed over the
years. His work is also on display at Harney Sushi in Old Town and
Cesar’s Caribbean Restaurant & Lounge in the Gaslamp Quarter.

15, 2008) After nearly 80 years of sending planes into the
atmosphere, San Diego International Airport (SDIA) has launched a
unique public communications tool … into the blogopshere. An
employee blog called the Goodwill Ambassablog, authored by
rank-and-file Airport Authority employees, is now available to the
general public at www.ambassablog.com.

Produced internally and at virtually no

Organic To Go Expands into San Diego
Airport

- Healthier Meal Alternatives
Attractive to Traveler -

SEATTLE, Wash - (May. 15, 08) - Organic
To Go (OTCBB: OTGO), the nation’s first fast casual café
chain to be certified as an organic retailer, announced it’s first
free-standing airport café at the San Diego International
Airport. Organic To Go has partnered with Concessions Management
Services, Inc. (CMS), an experienced multi-concept concession company
based in Los Angeles, California, with operations or ownership
interest at Los Angeles International, Las Vegas McCarran, Atlanta
Hartsfield-Jackson International, Houston George Bush
Intercontinental and Tampa International airports.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for
Organic To Go. In 2007 over 18 million passengers went through the
San Diego airport,” said Jason R. Brown, founder and CEO of Organic
To Go. “As traffic is projected to continue to increase, this
location will “put us on the map” in the airport industry and
show we are a viable alternative for expansion into other airports.”

Since opening it’s first café
in San Diego in November 2007, Organic To Go has grown to eight
cafes, with five downtown and two in La Jolla, California. In
addition to its sit-down cafés in high rise, multi-tenant
office buildings, Organic To Go also offers catering and delivery to
corporations and catering, delivery and grab & go options on
university and corporate campuses.

“I’m proud of our existing
relationship with CMS at the Los Angeles International Airport and
excited about expanding our business together at San Diego
International Airport,” said Jason Brown. “We selected CMS as a
true veteran in airport concession services management and believe
that they will be a great partner to further develop the Organic To
Go brand at the San Diego Airport and beyond.”

“We see an increasing demand for
fresh and more wholesome menu items,” said Clarence A. Daniels,
President and CEO of CMS. “We’ve witnessed an impressive customer
response and growth at our six LAX locations since offering the
Organic To Go options. People are very happy to have choices for
meals made with fresh and delicious organic and natural ingredients
without pesticides or antibiotics.”

Because most airlines no longer provide
meals on domestic flights, fliers now have to often fend for
themselves at airport concessions. The Airport Revenue News 2007 Fact
Book states that travelers spent $3.2 billion on food and beverages
in 2006 at airports. A recent report by the Physicians Committee for
Responsible Medicine, which has been reporting on airport food for
seven years, indicates that healthier choices at airports are in
greater demand.

About Organic To Go

Based in Seattle, Organic To Go is the
nation’s first fast casual café chain to be certified as an
organic retailer with locations in Seattle, Los Angeles, and San
Diego. Organic To Go’s delicious organic food is now available in
more than 170 locations - including 29 cafés, more than 120
wholesale locations, 14 universities, 11 locations at Los Angeles
International Airport and one location at San Diego International
Airport. The company started 2007 with 12 cafés and closed a
year of growth and expansion with 26 cafés, and now operates
in four geographic regions. The company’s multi-channel business
model includes Retail, Corporate Catering and Wholesale operations.
Organic To Go’s mission is to become the leading branded provider
of certified organic and natural soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees
and other food products to corporate, university and other
institutional customers in selected urban areas nationwide. All
Organic To Go fare is made with organic ingredients whenever possible
and is always natural, free of harmful chemicals and created with
care. For more information, visit www.organictogo.com.

-----

That's it for now. Remember, if you eXpect delaYs, you can beat them!
Happy Travels!
Gus

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will soon be home to two new
XpresSpa locations that will offer spa services and specialty

as body massages, manicures, pedicures, facials and waxing. XpresSpa
will also retail personal care products in various categories: bath
and body, nail care, spa therapy, decorative soaps and massagers. The
St. Louis Airport Commission and the City of St. Louis approved a
five year agreement with the retailer that will begin after a
construction build-out period of up to six months. XpresSpa will be
located in the C Concourse (across from the current “Chili’s Too”
restaurant) and the East Terminal, next to gate E-18. “XpresSpa

Last fall, DIA invited state residents
to submit written statements or poems expressing what they love about
Colorado and why. Residents with diverse viewpoints, interpretations,
and backgrounds submitted more than 300 original statements and poems
expressing their visions of Colorado. Artists around the state
interpreted the best of these submissions in many different media.

A jury reviewed the 697 artworks
submitted by 407 artists and chose the ones that are on display at
DIA. Jury members were: Sonnet Hanson, master teacher for modern and
contemporary art, Denver Art Museum; Pauline Herrera, communications
and marketing director, Denver Office of Cultural Affairs; Steve
Klodt, acting director of publications, DIA; Grant Pound, executive
director, Colorado Art Ranch, and Chris Ransick, Denver poet
laureate. The exhibit is on display through January 2009, and will be
seen by several million people during that time, including delegates
to the Democratic National Convention in August. Colorado: See the
New West Like a Local is located on the walkway leading from Jeppesen
Terminal to the Concourse A security-screening checkpoint, and is
accessible for everyone’s enjoyment.

There's some interesting news bits so far this week. Some good news if you live in Rapid City; hotel renovations for those in Hartford; A flight delay in Austin where passengers did exercise their rights to get off the plane; Delays for JetBlue's transcontinental routes due to costs; Rodents found in Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

Airport plans concourse expansion in early 2009
Full story at: http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2008/05/06/news/local/doc481e39c11786f296113954.txt

Rapid City, SC. Rapid City Regional Airport: Rapid City Regional Airport has completed the preliminary design phase of an estimated $4 million concourse expansion that would create additional space for security screenings and holding areas for passengers waiting to board flights. Other airport projects on the horizon include building a new fire station to replace one currently in the old terminal building, relocating an electrical vault that controls all of the airport's lights, expanding the taxiway and apron, and new baggage screening devices. The airport also may remodel the restaurant to make it a more pleasant place to wait.

*****

Connecticut's Leading Hospitality Firms Join Forces at Sheraton Hotel at Bradley International Airport
Full story at: http://www.centredaily.com/business/story/574152.html

Hartford, Bradly International Airport: Konover Hotel Corporation and Waterford Group today announced that they have partnered on the Sheraton Hotel at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. Substantial renovations are planned for the Sheraton hotel, including an exterior facelift, renovations to the lobby, reception area, pool and fitness area, ballrooms, food and beverage outlets, garage, club lounge and refurbishment to all 237 guest rooms. The hotel will remain open during renovations, which is targeted for completion in 2009. The 237-room full-service hotel is the only hotel located within the airport complex. On-site amenities of the 10-story hotel include a Concierge Floor and lounge, an indoor swimming pool and complete exercise facility, high speed Internet access, fifteen meeting rooms, a full-service restaurant, lounge, Starbucks Cafe and grand ballroom to accommodate meeting and banquet functions up to 400 people. Austin Bergstrom International Airport: It may have been a case of an airline passenger bill of rights working in reverse -- when a one hour flight became a four hour ordeal at Austin Bergstrom International Airport Tuesday. The flight was scheduled to leave ABIA at 7:30 a.m. for a short hop to Dallas. But before the plane even pulled away from the gate the pilot warned passengers that storms in Dallas would cause a delay -- at that point 10 people got off. After waiting more than an hour the tension continued to build on the plane, and several passengers demanded to get off. The remaining 120 passengers arrived at DFW at 12:14 -- nearly four hours late. American Airlines officials said the pilot did the right thing by going back and letting those who wanted to leave off the plane.

*****

JetBlue to delay launch of LAX service
Full story at: http://www.chicagotribune.com/travel/la-fi-jetblue6-2008may06,0,7611268.story?track=rss

JetBlue Airways is expected to announce today that because of high fuel costs it is suspending indefinitely its first transcontinental flights from Los Angeles International Airport. The start of additional service at Burbank and Long Beach on May 21 is on track. As part of its West Coast expansion, JetBlue recently added a flight from Long Beach to Austin, Texas, and on May 21 will begin service between Burbank and Las Vegas, Long Beach and San Jose, and San Diego and Seattle, among others.

*****

Report: Dozens and dozens of mice, rats live at O'Hare airport
Full story at: http://pantagraph.com/articles/2008/05/06/news/doc481fc84879f25246804022.txt

Chicago, IL. O'Hare International Airport: A WGN-TV investigation that aired Monday night uncovered an infestation of mice and rats throughout O'Hare's Terminal One -even among food service and preparation areas.

Remember, if you eXpect delaYs, you can beat them!
Happy travels -
-Gus

In this past week's news, There's a power outage in Memphis, Gourmet Airline Food becomes availabe for those who are lucky, Indianopolis Airport Serves Local Food, California assembly supports the Airline Passengers Bill of Rights, and Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Insalls YoNaturals Healthy Vending Machines

Memphis airport power outage forces flight cancellations

Full story at: http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2008-04-30-memphis-power-outage_N.htm?csp=34

MEMPHIS (AP) --- Power was restored Wednesday at the Memphis International Airport terminal after a 14-hour outage, forcing some 60 flights to be canceled while others were delayed. Power was back on around 12:40 p.m. CT after delays were caused when a switch broke and maintenance workers were unable to restore electrical service right away. Northwest Air Lines, which operates a hub at the airport and had 200 flights affected, said the average delay was 45 minutes.

****

Gourmet Food On Flights Takes Off
Full story at: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/29/travel/main4056008.shtml
April 29, 2008

While complimentary meals have all but disappeared for most coach flights, there's a whole new culinary landscape for first class. Travelers flying to South America or Japan on United Airlines can feast on award-winning chef Charlie Trotter's appetizer of sauteed prawns and crispy short rib wontons with organic Thai barbecue sauce and chilled sweet-and-sour cucumber relish. For Delta, hot Miami chef Michelle Bernstein came up with entrees such as roasted chicken breast with goat cheese and pepper pesto crust served with polenta and ratatouille. Thanks to financial pressures that began with the 2001 terrorist attacks and have only worsened as fuel prices have soared, complimentary coach meals have become an endangered species. Continental is the only major U.S. airline that still offers complimentary meals - designed by their "Congress of Chefs" - in economy class for domestic travel. While most of the gourmet action is in first class, Delta Air Lines enlisted celebrity chef Todd English to design its fee-based coach meals - a chicken bistro salad with goat cheese crostini and organic spinach for $8 - available on certain flights longer than 2½ hours. Preparing and presenting airline food still has its challenges that even celebrity chefs can't alter. Aircraft pressurization can make food dry and flavorless.

****
Indy's own give airport local flavor
Full story at: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080501/BUSINESS07/805010409

King David Dogs' owners fielded the first call last summer: Would the restaurant be interested in having a presence at the new midfield terminal at Indianapolis International Airport? They are licensing the King David name and concept to Host International, an arm of the huge concessionaire, HMSHost, that will run several restaurants at the new terminal. "Airports are doing this [providing local restaurants] so people who are traveling through can get a taste of the region or a feel for what it's like," said Tom Coyle, executive director of restaurant and retail development with MZD here. The airport in Austin, Texas, is the best example, Coyle said, with about two-thirds of its businesses being local.

****
Assembly Adopts Airline Passenger Bill Of Rights
http://cbs13.com/local/california.assembly.airline.2.713834.html

SACRAMENTO (AP) -- California lawmakers on Thursday approved legislation requiring airlines to provide passengers with food, water, lights, air and working toilets when they're stuck on airport tarmacs for long periods of time. The law would require airlines to ensure that passengers have basic amenities if planes are stuck on the tarmac for more than three hours.

****
Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Welcomes Installation of New YoNaturals Healthy Vending Machines
Full Press Release at: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/080502/aqf030.html?.v=46

With an aggressive growth plan in effect for 2008, YoNaturals Inc., the nations leading healthy vending provider, has taken another big step in their expansion efforts with new vending locations in the state of Mississippi. The airport, an obvious high- traffic area, and statewide landmark, will now be offering its guests an assortment of healthy snacking options through YoNaturals' vending machines. The Edgewater Mall, Ocean Springs High School, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, and Ocean Springs YMCA will also be providing its customers and students with snacks and beverages from YoNaturals' natural and organic line-up. YoNaturals state of the art vending machine with wireless remote monitoring capabilities designed with ultimate convenience in mind, for both consumers and owners, is the final piece that allows this model to work with complete synergy.

Remember, if you eXpect delaYs you can beat them!
Until next time, Happy Travels -
-Gus

WASHINGTON
– The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Continental
Airlines announced today plans to continue the rollout of the
Paperless Boarding Pass pilot program to Ronald Reagan Washington
National Airport, Newark (N.J.) International Airport and Logan
International Airport in Boston over the coming weeks. This
innovative approach will allow passengers to receive boarding passes
electronically on their cell phones or PDAs, which will then be
scanned by TSA security officers at the checkpoint, eliminating the
need for a paper boarding pass. Continental is the first U.S. carrier
to test paperless boarding passes.

Each
paperless boarding pass will display an encrypted two-dimensional bar
code along with passenger and flight information that will identify
the traveler. TSA travel document checkers will use hand-held
scanners to validate the authenticity of the paperless boarding pass
sent to Continental passengers. The new technology heightens the
ability to detect fraudulent boarding passes while improving customer
service and reducing paper use.

"The
deployment of the paperless technology, with Continental Airlines,
signifies TSA’s ongoing commitment to develop and execute new
technologies within aviation while enhancing security," said
Karen Burke, federal security director, Ronald Reagan Washington
National Airport. "These paperless boarding pass pilots are a
significant step towards ensuring that fraudulent boarding passes
cannot be used to gain access to the sterile side of airports."

TSA
created the concept of how to scan the paperless boarding passes and
Continental Airlines developed an implementation plan that involved
encrypting the paperless boarding pass to ensure authenticity. "We
are pleased to take part in this pioneering concept that provides
enhanced security and customer service to our passengers," said
Mark Bergsrud, Continental Airlines senior vice president, Marketing
Programs and Distribution. "Continental Airlines is committed to
innovation and leveraging technology to the benefit of our
customers."

The
paperless boarding pass pilot is consistent with the global standard
in the International Air Transport Association for bar coding of
passenger boarding passes. This joint effort between Continental
Airlines and TSA will enable the airline industry to look forward to
a paperless check-in process.

The
first paperless boarding pass pilot began in Houston in December of
2007, and is still ongoing. Since the initial launch, enhancements
have been made to the paperless boarding pass to improve the
readability of the bar code on a wider variety of mobile devices.

For
more information regarding TSA, please visit our Web site at

*****

Pittsburgh
International Airport To Get TSA Self Select Security Screening Lanes

Pittsburgh
International Airport (PIT) will soon implement the TSA's self select
security screening lanes. These lanes were designed to help expedite
airport security screening for all travelers. Self-Select Lanes are
comprised of a series of lanes designated by signage (modeled after
ski slope ratings) that directs passengers based on their travel
needs and knowledge – Expert (Black Diamond), for the business
traveler who flies several times a month; Casual (Blue Square), for
passengers that travel less frequently, but are familiar with the
security process; and Family/Special Assistance (Green Circle), for
passengers traveling with small children or strollers, elderly
passengers and passengers who may need special assistance.

Well, here are a few of the more interesting stories on airports, security, airport dining and delays from the last week and a half. There's some more news about another airport adopting the self-select three lane security program (Houston), a new restaurant coming to Charlotte - Douglas International Airport (Chicken and Biscuts, anyone?), a delay in LA, expansion in AL, and some new dining and drinking establishements in Honolulu's airport.

Officials downplay airport delay
Full story at the DailyBreeze.com : http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/ci_8988677?source=rss

Los Angeles -- The bad news is that the Midfield Satellite Concourse at Los Angeles International Airport will not be built by January 2012, breaking a promise made just eight months ago by airport executives. The good news is that the airport will still be able to accommodate the Airbus A380 and other superjumbo jetliners by building more contact gates on the back side of the Tom Bradley International Terminal. "I think the Midfield Concourse will be done in late 2012 or early 2013 now, but we'll have those new gates built at the Bradley Terminal by January 2012," said Los Angeles Councilwoman Janice Hahn, who heads the council's Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee. City and airport officials are painting the rosy picture as the Board of Airport Commissioners is set to consider on Monday a pair of architecture and engineering contracts totaling more than $80 million to design the new Midfield Concourse, along with a series of "enhancements" to the Bradley terminal. The Los Angeles City Council agreed in August to build the $1.3billion Midfield Concourse, which is expected to be equipped with eight to 10 new gates capable of handling super-sized airlines at LAX. Problems arose when airport officials failed to consider the complexity of taking on such a massive construction project while meeting a relatively short deadline, according to LAX sources familiar with the project.

*****

Airport expanding to meet influx of fliers
Full story at The Huntsville Times : http://www.al.com/news/huntsvilletimes/index.ssf?/base/news/1208683094235280.xml&coll=1

Huntsville AL -- Huntsville International Airport is in the midst of an ambitious $65 million terminal improvement plan, which includes upgrading the food and beverage areas and expanding the baggage claim and public waiting areas.Even though expansion plans were approved by the Huntsville/Madison County Airport Authority in 2004 - the year before the Base Realignment and Closure Commission decision to move several commands to Redstone Arsenal - the project should help out with the expected influx of new residents."We're expanding the facility to meet a normal 20-year growth pattern," yet still have the ability to expand for sudden growth if needed, said Rick Tucker, the airport's executive director. "Once the expansion is complete, we could easily handle 2 million passengers."

*****

Hobby Airport testing new security lanes
Full Story at ABC13 : http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=6093210

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Transportation Security Administration is beginning what it calls the self-select lane program at Hobby Airport. The self-select program divides security lanes into three categories, allowing travelers to select a lane that fits their pace and knowledge of the security rules. The blue lane is for those who are more casual travelers. This lane is for those who travel a couple of times a year and aren't positive on the TSA rules and may need a little more time. The green lane is for those who rarely travel and for families with small children. Hobby Airport is one of dozen airports across the county that is testing out the lane system.

*****

$20M going to improve airport eateries
Full Story at Honoluluadvertiser.com : http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080416/NEWS09/804160405

Honolulu, HI -- More than $20 million in restaurant improvements are arriving at Honolulu International Airport at a time of bankruptcies and other turbulence in the airline industry. Officials hope the upgrades encourage travelers to spend more time and money at the airport and leave with a better impression. First to begin serving meals was Dewar's Clubhouse Bar & Grille, which opened at the Central Concourse yesterday as part of improvements planned by food concessionaire HMSHost Corp. this year and next. HMSHost is offering options to travelers, from grabbing a frappuccino on the go, through sitting down for a pizza at California Pizza Kitchen ASAP to the restaurant ambience of Dewar's. In July, a Kona Brew Pub, which now has restaurants in Koko Marina and Kona, will open at the airport's main terminal, Yamamoto said. Sekiguchi knows some residents would like to see more food and drink options before the security checkpoints but he said that is a lower priority.

*****

Feds to require foreign travelers' fingerprints as they leave the U.S.
Full Story at the Seattle Times : http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2004365763_webfingerprints22.html

Airlines and cruise-ship operators must already provide the federal government with biographical information on international passengers before they leave the country. But this rule would require biometric information --- such as fingerprints --- to be collected and then transmitted within 24 hours of a visitor leaving the U.S. The majority of non-U.S. Over 10 years, officials estimate it will cost air and sea carriers about $2.7 billion to carry out the requirement, part of what's called the US-VISIT program.

*****

BOJANGLES’ LANDS FIRST AIRPORT LOCATION AT CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL
Full Story at http://www.bojangles.com/uploadedFiles/About_Us/news/Bojangles_CLT_Airport.pdf

Charlotte, NC -- Bojangles', the famous chicken and biscuits chain known for its unique Cajun flavor and made-from-scratch breakfast served all day, is soaring to new heights with the brand's first-ever airport location. We want to expand its reach and bring Bojangles' unique fare and high quality service to travelers who have never had the opportunity to experience it and also to those who have loved it for years," said Eric Newman, Executive Vice President of Development for Bojangles' Restaurants, Inc. "There is a sense of pride in opening the first Bojangles' airport restaurant in our hometown. There is quite a bit of news about airport restaurant, shopping and bar additoins and changes as well as some additional things to do on layovers or during flight delays. Topics include: San Jose Airport Eateries, Rochester Airport Gets a Clock, Buffalo Airport Upgrades Security Checkpoints, Portland Airport Gets A Brewery, DFW starts a big project, Huntsville, San Diego, Fayetteville, Miami, Columbus, Tampa and Little Rock Airports get new concessions.

Valley eateries make cut at revamped
San Jose Airport

Full Story at MercuryNews.com
http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_8887970?source=rss

San Jose, CA

Despite fears that local companies
might get shunted aside in the expansion of San Jose's airport, it
appears plenty of local restaurants are preliminary winners to feed
hungry travelers. A nine-member selection committee and Airport
Director Bill Sherry last week named the three contractors they want
to install and oversee about 40 new food and retail stores throughout
the new Terminal B and the revamped Terminal A, starting late next
year.

Airport officials have said they don't
want to disclose the actual stores and restaurants in the packages
until the losing bidders have a chance to appeal - which should take
about two weeks.

There is a San Jose Sharks-theme bar
and restaurant. Sausages grilled fresh from San Jose's 100-year-old
Chiaramonte's Deli & Sausage. A home-grown answer to the Hard
Rock Cafe - San Jose Rocks. The Bay Area-launched Gordon Biersch will
retain a presence at the airport as part of Host International's
winning package. It's not yet clear which retail stores are included
in the winning bids or which restaurants or stores will be available
to people who haven't passed through security.

As for Terminal C, the current Burger
King, Starbucks and retail stores will remain there until that aging
terminal is torn down, probably in a couple of years, Vossbrink said.

---

Clock of Nations Heads for Airport

Rochester, NY

The Clock of Nations is being moved
from it's downtown location and will be heading for Rochester
International Airport, temporarily. Larry Cohen of Midtown Rochester
Properties LLC says he got many offers for the clock. Cohen's company
donated this special gift to Monroe County and its airport authority.
In 2012, the authority will donate the clock to Golisano Children's
Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital. At thirty feet tall and sixteen
feet wide, the hospital needs a big space for this big gift.

So check out the clock when you pass
through Rochester International Airport!

---

Airport concessions nearly ready (Huntsville International Airport)

Full Story at the Huntsville Times
http://www.al.com/business/huntsvilletimes/index.ssf?/base/business/120773257347960.xml&coll=1

Huntsville, AL
Huntsville International Airport
passengers will soon be able to take advantage of some of the
improvements in the airport's $65 million expansion and renovation
project. A new and expanded concession area could be ready by
Saturday, said Luther "Butch" Roberts Jr., the airport's
deputy director. The concessions area, located in the airport's
concourse, will more than double to about 6,000 square feet.
Huntsville International is the first airport to have a retail
Gevalia coffee location, with gourmet coffee and specialty tea, and
will be the first airport with a McAllister's Deli. There will also
be a new full service bar with food and beverages to go. All of the
remodeled Four Points by Sheraton restaurant and lounge should also
be ready by the weekend, Roberts said.

Additional airport exansion includes:

Public waiting expansion, which will
add 14,000 square feet, brings the waiting space area to 20,000
square feet, with seating for more than 200 people - June 2009.

Parking expansion.

Additional operations features such as
cargo building, control tower and industrial park.

---
Buffalo Niagara International Airport
upgrading security checkpoint to end bottleneck

Buffalo, N.Y.
Security checkpoint lines at Buffalo
Niagara International Airport should be picking up speed just in time
for the summer travel season. The federal Transportation Security
Administration will reconfigure the airport's checkpoint with the
goal of boosting passenger processing volume by as much as 35
percent. Key to the security queue realignment will be the
positioning of two X-ray screening devices in four of the six lanes
to improve passenger flow. Currently, each of the lanes is outfitted
with a single X-ray station to inspect carry-on bags and other
personal items. The checkpoint enhancement, which could be
operational by late May or early June, has the potential to boost the
clearance rate by 250 to 300 travelers per hour. "It's all about
keeping things moving and working as efficiently as possible,"
said Lawrence Meckler, executive director of the Niagara Frontier
Transportation Authority. "It's a great thing when an airport
and the TSA can work together to make a checkpoint function with
optimal efficiency," said TSA spokeswoman Lara Uselding.

Dallas
American Airlines may cancel as many as
250 flights Saturday, running the five-day total to more than 3,300
flights grounded for the world's largest airline.

But there was some good news for
American's customers --- American expects its schedule to be back to
normal by late Saturday afternoon as it finishes inspections and
repairs on its fleet of 300 MD-80 jets. The carrier was forced to
ground the MD-80 fleet Tuesday afternoon after Federal Aviation
Administration inspectors found that American's aircraft had not been
modified to conform to a 2006 airworthiness directive. The
cancellations, which affected nearly half of American's scheduled
flights on Wednesday, disrupted the travel plans of hundreds of
thousands of passengers.

Fayetteville, AR
The Fayetteville Airport Board approved
a lease agreement Wednesday for a new restaurant to occupy space in
the airport's terminal. A Fare to Remember, a restaurant, catering
and special events venue, will take over the space as soon as it is
vacated by Wilma's Restaurant at the end of the month. Wilma Walker
opened a restaurant in the airport terminal last April serving
home-style meals such as catfish, pork chops and fried chicken.
Airport Director Ray Boudreaux said the new tenant will not rely as
much on airport traffic, as a large portion of its business is
catering.

will break ground by first quarter 2009, with all components planned
to rise simultaneously on a 32-acre, ground-leased parcel at
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The long-awaited Southgate
Plaza is the next development move to establish a world-class airport
city. The development site is at the intersection of Rental Car Drive
and International Parkway, making the 850,000-sf Southgate Plaza
accessible to general consumers as well as airport users without
forcing them through the toll gates. Southgate Plaza will have 60,000
sf of retail and restaurant space, a 120,000-sf value-office building
and room for a 200,000-sf class A office, 400-key five-star hotel and
a select-service hotel with 120 to 130 rooms. Southgate Plaza will be
designed with a skywalk to connect the rental car lot with the
full-service hotel. All restaurants will be outfitted with flight
display screens as will the hotels. Southgate is envisioned as a
pedestrian-friendly design blending the plaza with a park and
promenade.

lacking in airports, SSP is now bringing enhanced restaurant offerings
to North American airports. Portland's renowned dedication to the
environment prompted SSP America to introduce Laurelwood to PDX.

    A Portland exclusive, Laurelwood is
known for brewing Oregon's original certified organic beers. Its Organic
Free Range Red and Organic Tree Hugger Porter are recognized as
environmentally-friendly brews and world-class ales. Patrons will also enjoy produce
from local farmers, all natural Oregon Country Beef, Draper Valley
Chicken, Carlton Farms Pork, and Laurelwood's signature breakfasts,
including a local favorite, the "Tree Hugger Scramble."

    Laurelwood is exemplary of an
impressive line of organic and healthy food options SSP America is now
offering to North American airports. Camden Food Co., another SSP America
exclusive, features an organic menu with biodegradable and recyclable packaging.

    "Our partnership with
Laurelwood epitomizes our strategy to compliment our extensive international and
national brand portfolios with iconic local and national brands and concepts,"
Cappetta added. "Since opening our first Laurelwood location last fall at PDX,
the restaurant has become a popular
meeting place. This supports our
ambition to provide more space and sanctuary for the traveling consumer."

    In addition to the Laurelwood
locations, SSP America also opened a Pizzicato Gourmet Pizza and Quiznos
Subs at PDX. These restaurants help to provide travelers with an array of
dining choices.

HMSHost Corp. Riding Coattails of San
Diego's Lindbergh Field's Soaring Success

Full Story at RedOrbit from the San

Key words: San Diego International
Airport, SAN,

With a captive audience of hungry
passengers boarding no-feast, just famine flights, San Diego
International Airport has a booming restaurant industry. In late
February, HMSHost Corp. introduced the first airport Yan Can
restaurant at Lindbergh Field. It is also the first of the chain's
locations in San Diego and one of several new eateries planned for
the two terminals. Situated outside the security area in Terminal 1,
the new 1,200- square-foot Yan Can replaced a Pizza Hut and Cinnabon
snack bar, which were also HMSHost concessions. Nyle Marmion, the
airport's manager of concession development, said that passengers
easily can take Yan Can's packaged items, including Kung Pao chicken
and Mongolian beef, through security and on board their flights.

HMSHost has 50 concessions, including
30 food and beverage outlets and 20 gift and news shops in about
60,000 square feet of space at Lindbergh Field. The company plans to
invest about $5 million in new restaurants at Lindbergh over the next
few years. They include Brioche Doree Cafe & Bakery in Terminal
1; Chili's Too in the Terminal 1 food court; Quiznos in the Terminal
1 east rotunda; and Starbucks Coffee in Terminal 2, east.
Additionally, it has committed to retrofitting all of its Starbucks
outlets at the airport, Marmion says.

All of the new eateries will replace
existing HMSHost concessions and more "reconcepting" is
under negotiation. Chili's, for instance, which is under
construction, replaces Arriba Margarita and Pizzeria Uno, Marmion
said. "The reason we wanted a Chili's is because we wanted a
restaurant with full-service, sit-down dining and more menu items,
which we didn't have," he said.

Last year, the company's gross sales
from shops, restaurants and pubs at San Diego International totaled
$72 million. The airport's take from rents based on varying
percentages of sales amounted to $10.4 million. The year before,
gross sales were $64.4 million and it paid $9.3 million in rent.

HMSHOST ADDS MORE GREAT BRANDS WITH
CONCESSIONS CONTRACT EXTENSION AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

BETHESDA, Md. ? HMSHost Corporation, a
world leader in travel dining and shopping, and its partner Tinsley
Family Concessions Inc., announced today a contract extension to
continue providing innovative dining options to Miami International
Airport travelers through 2011.

“We appreciate the opportunity the
Miami-Dade Aviation Department has given us to continue offering
Miami travelers outstanding guest service from their favorite
restaurant brands,” said Steve Johnson, Senior Vice President,
Business Development for HMSHost.

HMSHost recently opened a Ciao Gourmet
Market, two BACARDI Mojito Bars, and plans to add an additional
Starbucks Coffee to the current roster of brands enjoyed by Miami
passengers, including California Pizza Kitchen, Quiznos, and Casa
Bacardi.

Located on Concourse D, Ciao Gourmet
Market is the American version of Ciao Ristorante, a popular Milan
based concept. This popular European concept closely emulates the
sophisticated gourmet food markets that fill the piazzas and town
squares of Italy. The market’s menu is a combination of great food
and packaged products for on-the-go-consumption. Travelers can choose
from a wide selection of freshly prepared, pre-packaged gourmet pasta
salads, specialty sandwiches, fresh fruit trays, vegetable crudités,
yogurt fruit parfaits, organic nuts and dried fruit, energy bars,
smoothies, chocolates, iced tea and sodas.

Rich in history and reflective of its
Latin roots, the BACARDI Mojito Bars are a welcome oasis for
travelers passing through Miami International Airport’s Concourse D
and South Terminal. Mosaic glass wall tiles, stained metal panels,
and dimensional acrylic paneling all convey a sophisticated image
that comes Alive with Taste, for which the Mojito cocktail and
BACARDI rum are known. HMSHost bartenders mix the BACARDI Mojitos
with an expertise evident in the delicious and balanced tastes of
fresh lime, mint, sugar and BACARDI Rum.

HMSHost and its other Miami partner,
World Wide Concessions, also operate more traveler favorites,
including Chili’s too, Chili’s Grab N Go, Sam Adams Brewhouse and
Budweiser Brewhouse.

Rat stench has been a persistent
problem at Orlando International Airport (OIA), top customs officials
say. US Customs and Border Protection officials complained to Orlando
International Airport officials that passengers and inspectors became
"ill" earlier this month -- nearly a week before a
satellite security checkpoint was shut down because workers were
sickened again by dead-rat odors. The first-floor customs checkpoint
for arriving foreign passengers at Airside 1 was shut down
temporarily after some agency workers got sick.

The much-publicized Open Skies
Agreement between the US and the European Union starts this week,
lifting bilateral restrictions on flights between the two areas.

The agreement allows US airlines to
expand nonstop service from their hubs to coveted destinations,
particularly those favored by higher-paying business travelers. With
Open Skies, we are removing the barriers and restrictions to
transatlantic travel, and the consumer will be the real winner, with
a greater choice of gateways to European destinations, said
Jean-Philippe Perol, US Chairman of the European Travel Commission.
European carriers, for now, seem to prefer to add more code share
partnerships, according to International Travel Daily News.

The Port Authority Board of
Commissioners is expected to take a major step toward dealing with
airport congestion Thursday. To ease the problem the Port Authority
of New York and New Jersey is looking a new funding proposal and
intends on construction of aircraft departure hold-pads, the
extension of various taxiways to reduce bottlenecks and the
construction of new taxiways and the reconfiguration of existing
taxiways.

A Texas woman who said she was forced
to remove a nipple ring with pliers in order to board an airplane
called Thursday for an apology by federal security agents and a civil
rights investigation. "My experience with TSA was a nightmare I
had to endure. Hamlin, 37, said she was trying to board a flight from
Lubbock to Dallas on February 24 when she was scanned by a
Transportation Security Administration agent after passing through a
larger metal detector without problems. Hamlin said she told the
woman she was wearing nipple piercings. "Our security officers
are well-trained to screen individuals with body piercings in
sensitive areas with dignity and respect while ensuring a high level
of security," the agency said in a statement.

The TSA responds that Transportation
Security Officers involved properly followed procedures in that
incident. However, in the future TSA will inform passengers that they
have the option to resolve the alarm through a visual inspection of
the article in lieu of removing the item in question.

Passengers boarding flights at Louis
Armstrong New Orleans International Airport will notice a change at
the airport's security checkpoint. Instead of being verified by a
simple visual scan, passenger identification and boarding passes now
will be given the once over by government employees carrying black
lights and magnifying loops. The change is the result of the
Transportation Security Administration's decision to take over the
job of validating passenger identification at the nation's airports.
