PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 3, 2008 - ROUTE 65 RAMP IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE MONDAY IN PITTSBURGH

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that improvement work will continue on the ramp from eastbound (inbound) Route 65 to northbound (outbound) I-279 (Parkway North) over Scotland Avenue in City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, on Monday, July 7, 2008.

Contractor crews will be continuing bridge joint and expansion dam repairs on the ramp. Crews were unable to complete the work in June due to inclement weather. Various lane closures and restrictions will occur on the ramp daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, July 11, 2008. The ramp will remain open to traffic.

The prime contractor performing the repairs is Mascaro Contracting of Pittsburgh under a $3.5 million contract to conduct repairs on numerous bridges in Allegheny County.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down, and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 3, 2008 - ROUTE 50 (WASHINGTON PIKE) IMPROVEMENTS AT GREENTREE ROAD INTERSECTION BEGIN MONDAY

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that lane closures and other restrictions will begin on Monday, July 7, 2008, on Route 50 (Washington Pike) at the intersection of Route 3052 (Greentree Road) and the newly constructed Walgreens in the Borough of Heidelberg, Allegheny County.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on Route 50 daily between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through early August to allow contractor crews to modify median islands, install new traffic signals, and improve storm water sewer systems as part of the new development. Frank J. Zottola Construction is performing the work under a contract with the developer. PennDOT is releasing this information as a public service only because the work is occurring on a state route.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down, and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 3, 2008 - NORTHBOUND ROUTE 51 RAMP TO BRIDGE STREET CLOSING MONDAY IN BRIDGEWATER

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists the off-ramp from northbound Route 51 to Bridge Street in the Borough of Bridgewater, Beaver County, will be closed beginning on Monday, July 7, 2008.

The ramp will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday for approximately one week through July 14 for concrete patching and repair. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the closure. The posted detour will be:

· Continue northbound on Route 51

· Turn right onto Leopard Lane

· Take Leopard lane to Market Street (Route 4042)

· Make right onto Market Street and follow to Bridge Street

The ramp repairs are included in a $3.2 million project to improve the Route 51 (Constitution Boulevard) Bridgewater Interchange in the Boroughs of Beaver and Bridgewater, Beaver County. The project includes concrete patching and overlay on Route 51, a new ramp from Bridge Street to northbound Route 51, traffic signal upgrades, drainage repairs, guiderail, bridge deck repairs, and other improvements from the south end of the Beaver-Rochester Bridge to approximately 800 feet north of Bridge Street. Traffic on Route 51 is currently reduced to a single lane around-the-clock in each direction through the interchange area.

The prime contractor for the project is the John Gulisek Construction Company of Mt. Pleasant, PA. The project will be completed this fall.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 3, 2008 - ROUTE 2010 LOVEDALE ROAD BRIDGE REPLACEMENT BEGIN MONDAY IN LINCOLN

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh, PA– PennDOT District 11 is pleased to announce construction activities to replace a small bridge on Route 2010 (Lovedale Road) in Lincoln Borough, Allegheny County, will begin on Monday, July 7, 2008.

The bridge is located on Lovedale Road between Jacktown Road Extension and Route 2023 (Harrison Hollow Road). To allow the necessary work to be completed, Route 2010 (Lovedale Road) will be closed to thru-traffic beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008. Route 2010 (Lovedale Road) will remain closed for approximately six weeks through mid-August 2008. About 8,800 vehicles use this area of Route 2010 (Lovedale Road).

Note: This project was originally scheduled to occur in May, but was postponed to minimize impacts on school buses.

The suggested detour is shown below:

Eastbound:

· Take right off Route 2010 (Lovedale Road) onto Route 2008 (Mill Hill Road)

· Left onto Scenery Drive/Route 48

· Return to Route 2010 (Lovedale Road)

Westbound:

South on Scenery Drive/Route 48
Right onto Route 2008 (Mill Hill Road)
Return to Route 2010 (Lovedale Road)

The closure is necessary as contractor crews remove and replace the bridge with a large pipe. The contractor performing the $70,000 project is Thornbury, Inc of Sunbury PA.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 2, 2008 - ROUTE 28 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE MONDAY

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists work to install median cable guide rail on Route 28 (Allegheny Valley Expressway) between the Creighton (Exit 13) and Tarentum (Exit 14) interchanges in East Deer and Fawn townships and the borough of Tarentum, Allegheny County, will continue on Monday, July 7, 2008.

To allow the necessary work to occur, left lane closures will occur daily in both directions on Route 28 through Thursday, July 10, 2008. Traffic will not be restricted during peak periods northbound and southbound. Any necessary restrictions and lane closures will occur according to the following schedule:

Northbound (outbound):

· 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Southbound (inbound):

· 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The lane closures are necessary as crews install a high tension cable barrier system and guide rail in the median on Route 28 as a safety improvement to prevent crossover crashes.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 2, 2008 - PARKWAY WEST INBOUND LANE CLOSURE THURSDAY IN ROBINSON

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists single lane traffic will occur on the inbound (eastbound) Parkway West (I-279/Route 22/30) between Boyce Road and the I-79 interchange in Robinson Township, Allegheny County, weather permitting, on Thursday, July 3, 2008.

Any necessary lane closures will only occur between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday. Crews will be repairing guiderail and crash attenuators along a quarter mile of the Parkway West. Motorists should be prepared for possible delays and changing traffic patterns. Slow down and be safe.

The work is part of the $67.5 million I-79 Parkway West “missing ramps” project. The project is constructing two ramps connecting I-79 to the Parkway West (I-279/Route 22/30). The project will also widen existing ramps, construct two bridge structures, one culvert, two retaining walls, add highway lighting, increase the existing intelligent transportation system, install variable message signs and cameras, drainage, guide rail, traffic signal work, signing, pavement markings, rumble strips and other miscellaneous construction. Construction will conclude in 2009. The prime contractor for the project is Balfour Beatty Construction, Inc. of Canonsburg, PA.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 2, 2008 - I-79 OVERPASS IMPROVEMENTS SET TO BEGIN IN PLAIN GROVE TOWNSHIP JULY 14

Pittsburgh, PA – District 11 is advising motorists that work to improve two bridges that carry Pollock Store Road and Brent Road over I-79 in Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, will begin on July, 14, 2008.

Both bridges will be closed to traffic around-the-clock while the work is performed beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 14, through mid-September 2008. Crews will conduct substructure repairs, bridge deck resurfacing, and drainage improvements on both bridges. The following restrictions will occur:

Brent Road Overpass: Brent Road will be open to local traffic only from Jarvis Road to Plain Grove Road; thru-traffic will not be permitted.

The bridge improvements are part of a $10.7 million project that includes concrete patching, bituminous superpave overlay, bridge repairs and resurfacing, shoulder, drainage and guide rail upgrades and other improvements on approximately 5.4 miles of I-79 through Lawrence County from the Mercer County line to the Butler County line.

Single lane closures and other restrictions are occurring daily on I-79 in the work zone daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some night and weekend work will also occur. The overall project will be completed in late fall 2008. The prime contractor is the I. A. Construction Company, Inc. of Zelienople, PA.

Motorists are advised to use caution, be prepared for changing traffic patterns, and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 1, 2008 - PARKWAY EAST MAINLINE WORK POSTPONED THROUGH UPCOMING WEEKEND

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that no mainline work or construction activities are currently scheduled on the Parkway East (I-376) in Allegheny County until next week.

All mainline work has been postponed this week through the upcoming July 4 holiday weekend.

Additional details will be released later for work that will occur next week. Mainline and ramp work is tentative scheduled to resume on Monday night, July 7.

Parkway East Schedule

July 1-6:

· No mainline work is scheduled.

· Traffic on Route 130 (Beulah Road) under the Parkway East between Route 2110 (William Penn Highway) and Churchill Road (Route 2104) will be restricted to a single lane in each direction around-the-clock through July 2. Crews will be performing bridge repairs on the overhead structure.

· Shoulder closures may occur in various locations on the Parkway East in both directions daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through July 2 for drainage and paving preparation activities.

· The Chestnut Street Bridge over the Parkway East will remain fully closed around-the-clock through this week. Bridge deck replacement is occurring. Signs are posted to guide motorists. Traffic is be detoured using Elm Street to Pennwood Avenue to Edgewood Avenue to Oakview Street.

Similar to the work that has occurred on the Parkway East over the past two construction seasons, the 2.92 mile, $22.8 mile project for 2008 includes concrete pavement patching and bituminous overlay, milling and resurfacing of mainline and interchange ramps, drainage, guide rail and end treatment upgrades, shoulder improvements, bridge preservation work on 15 structures (including three structurally deficient (SD) bridges that will be removed from the SD list once the project is completed), acceleration and deceleration ramp lengthening, signing and pavement markings, and other miscellaneous construction on the Parkway East in the City of Pittsburgh and the Boroughs of Swissvale, Edgewood, Braddock Hills, Wilkinsburg, Forest Hills and Churchill. The project begins at the bridge over South Braddock Avenue at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange and concludes at the bridge over Route 2048 (Business Route 22) in Churchill. The project will be completed in late 2008. The prime contractors for the project are the Trumbull Corporation of West Mifflin in a joint venture with Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle.

To help keep motorists informed of construction activities and traffic restrictions on the Parkway East, PennDOT has established a website specifically for the project. The website, www.penndot11.com, provides information on the project, details on current construction activities and traffic restrictions and other useful information. In addition, website visitors can register for email updates that will be sent weekly for upcoming work and restrictions. PennDOT has also created a hotline number for road construction information. The number, 412-429-6035, provides current traffic restrictions and other useful information on the Parkway East project and other key improvements in the region.

The project continues PennDOT District 11’s efforts to improve the entire length of the Parkway East from the Fort Pitt Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh to the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the Municipality of Monroeville. The past two construction seasons addressed the Parkway East from the Fort Pitt Bridge to the Bates Street Interchange (Exit 3) in 2006 and from Bates Street to just beyond the Edgewood Swissvale Interchange (Exit 7) in 2007. The remaining section of the Parkway East from Churchill to the Turnpike will be addressed in 2009-2010. District 11 is conducting these improvements to preserve, protect, improve and revitalize an essential Interstate corridor in Western Pennsylvania’s infrastructure.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 1, 2008 - MONTOUR CHURCH ROAD BRIDGE OVER ROUTE 22 CLOSED TO TRAFFIC

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists the bridge that carries Montour Church Road over Route 22/30 at the Steubenville Pike (Tonidale) Interchange west of the Route 60 interchange in North Fayette Township, Allegheny County, is currently closed to traffic today, Tuesday, July 1, 2008. In addition, Route 22/30 is restricted to a single lane in the inbound (eastbound) direction.

PennDOT is closing the bridge as a precaution after inspection crews identified a crack in a bridge beam. The crack is believed to be caused by over-height vehicles hitting the bridge. Repair work is expected to begin this evening. The bridge will remain closed and eastbound traffic on Route 22/30 will be restricted around-the-clock until repairs are completed. Westbound (outbound) traffic on Route 22/30 will also be restricted to a single lane while the repair work is underway.

The bridge is owned by PennDOT, but is located on a local road owned by North Fayette Township. About 7,600 vehicles use the bridge on an average day. PennDOT is currently designing a replacement structure for the Montour Church Road bridge over Route 22 with adequate under-clearance. The bridge replacement project should be under construction in 2010.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JULY 1, 2008 - ROUTE 51 WEST CARSON STREET RESURFACING CONTINUES WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Pittsburgh, PA– PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that mechanical patching (milling and resurfacing) will continue on Route 51 (West Carson Street) between Corliss Street and the West End Circle (Route 19) in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, on Wednesday night, July 2, 2008. Due to inclement weather, crews were unable to complete the work last week.

To allow the milling and resurfacing operations to occur, southbound (inbound) Route 51 will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. on Wednesday night through 6 a.m. on Thursday morning. Northbound (outbound) traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zone. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

Crews from PennDOT’s Allegheny County maintenance unit will be performing the emergency milling and resurfacing operations on sections of West Carson Street that have deteriorated significantly.

PENNDOT TRAFFIC NEWS RELEASE JUNE 30, 2008 -I-279/ROUTE 28 LANE CLOSURES CONTINUE TUESDAY ON NORTH SIDE

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that single lane closures will continue through July on Interstate 279 (Parkway North), Route 28 and several ramps on the North Side in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, beginning Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

The lane closures will occur daily as needed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through late July. Periodic traffic stoppages may also occur on the Canal Street ramp.

The single lane closures will occur at the following locations:

I-279
- Northbound (outbound) from the Route 28 split to East Ohio Street overpass
- Southbound (inbound) from the Anderson Street underpass to the East Ohio Street overpass
Route 28
- From the Heinz Plant to Anderson Street
Madison Avenue
- Between Route 28 and East Ohio Street on Madison Avenue
Canal Street ramp
- Between East Ohio Street and I-279

The work is part of a $7.9 million project that will improve traffic flow and mobility by constructing a new ramp to allow southbound Route 28 traffic to travel directly onto I-279 south. Currently, the movement requires exiting from Route 28 onto East Ohio Street traveling through three signalized intersections to access I-279. The new ramp when completed will allow free flowing traffic between southbound Route 28 and southbound I-279. The prime contractor for the project is the Brayman Construction Corporation of Saxonburg, PA. The project will be completed in September 2008. Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists work to repair a ramp over Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) in the borough of Freedom, Beaver County, will begin on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, weather permitting.

Crews will be conducting substructure steel repairs on the ramp from southbound Route 65 to Third Avenue. To allow the necessary work to occur, single lane closures will occur on Route 65 daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Tuesday, July 8. No work will occur on July 4 and lane closures will be lifted during peak periods in either direction.

Inspection activities on the I-279 Fort Pitt Bridge in the City of Pittsburgh will be postponed this weekend due to the Tour of PA Bike Race. Inspection activities will resume next weekend.
The ramp from northbound Route 51/19 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) to the outbound (southbound) Parkway West (I-279) in the City of Pittsburgh will be closed this weekend beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, June 27, and will continue around-the-clock through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30. Signs will be posted to guide motorists during the closure. The posted detour will be:
- Continue northbound on Route 51/19 to the West End Circle
- Travel through West End Circle looping back to southbound Route 51
- Take the southbound ramp from Route 51 to the outbound Parkway West

Ramp traffic will be detoured using the Parkway Center exit (Exit 4B) from the outbound Parkway West prior to the Greentree interchange. The right lane, exit lane and ramp closure on the outbound Parkway West will occur according to the following schedule:

June 27-28: Midnight Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday
June 28-29: Midnight Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday
June 29-30: 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday
June 30-July 3: Nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday

I-279 (Parkway North)

Traffic on outbound (northbound) Interstate 279 (Parkway North) in the area of the Route 19 overpass (Perrysville Avenue Bridge) in Ross Township will be reduced to single lane this weekend begin at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, June 27, and will continue around-the-clock through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 30. The Parkway North carries three lanes of outbound traffic in this area. Two outbound lanes will be closed allowing one lane to remain open as crews continue work to paint the Route 19 overpass (Perrysville Avenue Bridge). Inbound traffic will not be affected at this time.

I-79

Southbound Interstate 79 will be reduced to a single lane from the I-279 split to the Neville Island Bridge this weekend from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a. m. Monday

Route 65

Traffic on northbound Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) is reduced to a single 11-foot wide lane in the area of the I-79 Neville Island Bridge and the on-ramp to Route 65 from the Kilbuck Street Viaduct is closed around-the-clock through mid-July. Signs are posted to guide motorists around the closed ramp to Route 65. The posted detour is:
- Take I-79 southbound to Exit 65 (Neville Island)
- Turn right onto Grand Avenue
- Follow signs to northbound I-79
- Re-enter I-79 northbound
- Take the I-79 northbound off-ramp to Route 65/Glenfield Road (Exit 66)

Forbes Avenue/Boulevard of the Allies

· Forbes Avenue (Route 2108) is reduced to a single lane from Moultrie Street to McDevitt Place (approximately 2,500 feet) around-the-clock through late August 2008 in the Oakland area of the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. Traffic on Forbes Avenue is required to stop at the merge point with traffic from the Parkway East off-ramp (traffic from the Parkway East will be free-flowing).

· The bridge that carries the Boulevard of the Allies over Forbes Avenue is also closed for replacement through this fall.
