The "Great Allegheny Passage" combines with other trails, including the Montour trail to connect Pittsburgh with Washington D.C. The Pittsburgh Airport Marriot is located at

                                            Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB)
July 12, 2008 -- The Airport Marriott Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA is
excited about the possibilities that will come with the expansion of a
new bike trail from Washington, D.C. to the Pittsburgh International
Airport.

Officials hope to open a link between the Montour Trail and the airport
by late fall or early spring. The new bike trail will start at a
five-way intersection near the trail's Enlow Tunnel and will follow
portions of old Route 978 and Clinton Road to a former airport
construction access road that runs directly into the terminal complex.
The project has been in development since 1999, but planning was put on
hold after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, because of
security concerns. But now the project is back on and excitement is
building around Pittsburgh in anticipation for the opening of the link.

At present, the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott is located at the start of
the bike trail. Unlike other hotels in the area, this luxury Pittsburgh
airport hotel offers convenient access to bicyclists looking to spend
the night prior to embarking on the approximately 200 mile journey to
D.C., so, come and ride the bike trail, and start your journey at the
Pittsburgh Airport Marriott.

Park and Fly Package Offered at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott Makes Summer Travel a Breeze
Note: According to the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott web site, the price is slightly different than as stated in this news release, with prices starting at $109. An important detail left out of the press release and the hotel web site is the length of time that one is allowed to park. We called the hotel to check it out and were told that one would be able to park for two weeks. We also spoke to central Marriott reservations, and we were told that one could park 8 business days, up to 16 days depending on location, and prices vary depending on date of departure. We recommend that you call the hotel prior to booking to confirm that you are able to park for the full duration of your trip. Also note that the Marriott is located about 5 miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport but shuttle service is provided by the hotel. Ask for the "Park here, fly there" package when booking. - Gus

Press Release

AirTran shows tremendous gain

Nine airlines increase passenger traffic

Myrtle Beach Direct Air announces more flights

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 5, 2008) – Nine airlines at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) reported an

increase in passenger traffic in April 2008 compared to April 2007, according to the April 2008 Scheduled Airline Traffic

Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Of those, AirTran Airways led the charge with an impressive 40

percent growth – an increase of more than 13,000 passengers.

AirTran had a total of 47,937 passengers in April making it the fifth-busiest airline at Pittsburgh International Airport for

the month, accounting for 6.6 percent of the total passengers. Compared to April 2007, AirTran gained a total of 13,704

passengers (47,937/34,233; 40.0 percent increase).

AirTran added additional Florida flights to Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando. The airline has reported growth

over each of the past 15 months.

“AirTran’s success represents the positive changes we are seeing at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Allegheny County

Airport Authority Chief Executive Director Bradley D. Penrod. “AirTran was our first low cost carrier here and its

persistence is paying off. Additionally, other carriers have realized increased passenger numbers.”

Another such airline is Myrtle Beach Direct Air. While its total passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport is

modest, Myrtle Beach Direct Air reported a 10.1 percent increase in April (2,013/1,828; 10.1 percent). The airline has just

added two flights per week beginning in June.

Pittsburgh’s response to Myrtle Beach Direct Air’s three-day-per-week service has been so positive that they are adding on

two more days bringing the service up to 5 times per week. Their fares start at $99 each way between PIT-MYR. They will

operate 737-400 and A330 aircraft. Flights can be booked today at www.myrtlebeachdirectair.com or call 1(877)-432-DIRECT

(3473).

“Myrtle Beach Direct Air has increased service since starting at the airport in March 2007,” Penrod said. “Although it is a

niche market, it is providing an important service to our customers.”

Myrtle Beach Direct Air Schedule

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
ADVISORY

    * PASSENGER AIR TRAVEL EXPECTED TO
BE VERY HIGH MONDAY MORNING, May 12

    * ARRIVE EARLY FOR YOUR FLIGHT

PITTSBURGH, PA (May 9, 2008) – The
Allegheny County Airport Authority has been notified by the airlines
that there are a large number of travelers flying from Pittsburgh
International Airport on Monday morning, May 12. If your flight
leaves Monday, May 12, between 5 and 9 am at Pittsburgh International
Airport, you should arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight.
“The increase is most likely due to Mother’s Day, post-Penguins
game traffic and business travel. Passengers need to come to the
airport early and pack and dress smart to get through the screening
process quickly,” stated Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director,
Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Pittsburgh
International Airport (PIT) will soon implement the TSA's self select
security screening lanes. These lanes were designed to help expedite
airport security screening for all travelers. Self-Select Lanes are
comprised of a series of lanes designated by signage (modeled after
ski slope ratings) that directs passengers based on their travel
needs and knowledge – Expert (Black Diamond), for the business
traveler who flies several times a month; Casual (Blue Square), for
passengers that travel less frequently, but are familiar with the
security process; and Family/Special Assistance (Green Circle), for
passengers traveling with small children or strollers, elderly
passengers and passengers who may need special assistance.

This is the place where you can share with us how you pass the time when you are delayed at the Pittsburgh International Airport. Whether it is a great suggestion for a quiet place to get work done or some R & R, or a great place to get a snack, meal or a drink, or some other great service or store, we'd love to hear about it! This blog is searchable, so we will tag everyone's suggestions with keywords to make this information easily retrievable. You can enter your suggestion as a comment to the apporpriate airport's entry, but don't worry - we may do some shuffling around as we accumulate your comments to make information as easy to retrieve as possible. We do reserve the right to do some editting of the comments as well.

We at eXpect delaYs have a few tips for things to do when you are
delayed at the Pittsburgh International Airport.

1. We like to grab a drink and sometimes a snack at the Sam Adams
Brewhouse. There is one on concourse B about midway down, and one on
concourse C. Both are pretty small, but have a few Sam Adams beers on
tap, as well as other bottled beers. They have a small menu for snacks.
One thing that may bother some people and attract others is the these
are some of the only places that allow smoking in the airport, so smoke
is often in the air. So if you want to smoke this is the place to go,
but if you don't, be aware before you sit down. This may have changed
as Pittsburgh becomes more smoke-free, but when I was last there
smoking was still allowed.

2. You can usually find a seat in the food court area (just to your
left as you come off the escalators from the train) to eat and spread
out a little to get work done. There are more seats available than you
see at first glance, as they go behind the vendors where you can have
sit by a window to look at the planes, as well as in front of the
stores back towards concourse C.

*****

To enter your comment:

1) If comments are already displayed
below, there will be a form at the bottom of the page where you can
enter your comments. If not, then just below this entry you will see
the word "Comments". Click "Comments". The comments from other people
will be displayed and a form will be at the bottom of the page. Just
type your entry into the form.

2) You can preview your comment, but don't forget to click "submit comment" to save it when you are ready.

To View other people's comments:

1)
The comments may already be displayed below. If not, then simply browse
the comments by clicking on the word "Comments" at the bottom of this
entry.

2) If you would like to browse the comments for another
airport, then simply choose the airport from the Categories list on the
left. Or choose "Tips" to read helpful tips from others.

3) Or enter your search terms in the "quicksearch" box beneath the calender to the right.
