Passengers can enjoy a first-class European-style coffeehouse and bookshop

ATLANTA - January 12, 2010 – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) travelers now can get a taste of one of Atlanta’s most popular eateries and coffeehouses without leaving the Airport. Concessionaire Airport Retail Management (ARM) brings the European flair of Café Intermezzo and Buckhead Books to the centerpoint of Concourse B at Hartsfield-Jackson.

“Café Intermezzo has earned a reputation for high-quality food and a sophisticated atmosphere, so we are delighted that this local favorite is joining our diverse concessions,” said Ben DeCosta, Aviation general manager. “The combination with Buckhead Books adds another level of customer service, giving travelers a place to relax with a good book and an excellent cup of coffee or dessert.”

Café Intermezzo entered the Atlanta market in 1979; the Airport location opened in December 2009. The 5,000-square-foot space that houses Café Intermezzo and Buckhead Books reflects the style of a European coffeehouse and has a French-inspired patio. The menu includes international coffees, decadent desserts, creative meals and a full beer, wine and liquor menu rounds out the selection.

In addition to a variety of books by local and nationally known authors, Buckhead Books offers magazines, newspapers and other reading materials.

Café Intermezzo/Buckhead Books is one of the final concessions to open as part of the Atlanta Airport’s award-winning new retail program, which has opened more than 80 new stores throughout Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in the last year. The stores have increased the variety available to customers as well as brought a greater sense of place.

Minute Suites Arrive At Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport (ATL)

New Minute Suites at Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL) provide travelers with a (small) room for themselves

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) - November 2009 - ajc.com reported recently that the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is introducing new Minute Suites. These are small rooms that one can rent if one is looking for a place to get some rest or do some work away from the crowds during an airport layover or flight delay. Five “suites” are now available on Concourse B. They each offer pullout daybeds, 32-inch flat panel TVs built into the wall, high-speed wireless Internet and a clock. The cost is $30 for the first hour and $7.50 for every 15 minutes afterward. The suites' daybeds can accomodate a person close to 6' tall, and blankets and pillows are provided. Travelers can also request a wake up call. DirecTV service is also provided. The rooms are 7' x 8' and also have a sound system which provides a white noise type background sound. There are currently 5 suites, and if these prove to be popular, the program will be expanded.

Currently they only offer suites at the Atlanta airport. These might be worth a try if you are looking for a peaceful place for yourself the next time you have an Atlanta airport layover or flight delay.

Atlanta Airport Opens 13 New Stores

13 new stores open in Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (February 25, 2009) -- 13 new stores have opened at the Atlanta Airport. 13 more stores will open by Summer, for a total of 70 stores. New stores include Brooks Brothers, Brighton Collectibles, Drugs & More (featuring the AeroClinic), and the Georgia Aquarium’s Beyond the Reef. Additional stores coming by Summer include the New York Times Books & News, CNBC News Atlanta, Newsbeat Atlanta, Atlanta.net, LACOSTE, Piedmont Park TravelMart and Tech Showcase. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, about a quarter of the stores will be outside of security and the Airport management intends on people from the local area coming to the airport to use the new shops and facilities.

One Flew South - An Upscale Southern Themed Restaurant - To Open At Altanta Hartsfield - Jackson International Airport in Mid November 2008

Upscale Southern Themed Restaurant and Sushi Bar to Open at Atlanta Hartsfield - Jackson International Airport (ATL)

Atlanta Hartsfield - Jackson International Airport (ATL) (November 3, 2008) - Coming to the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL) Terminal E this month (November, 2008) is a new upscale restaurant that will have a Southern theme to its food, as well as a Sushi Bar. [I bet you didn't know that Sushi was traditional Southern fare ;-) -Gus]

The name of the restaurant is One Flew South. The people at Green Olive Media have pictures of the One Flew South restaurant as well as pictures of the some of the food that will be available at the restaurant on their web site. The restaurant itself has a website (http://www.oneflewsouthatl.com/) although as of Monday November 3, 2008, all that it had posted was a homepage with a logo. We assume there will be more to come? The menu is designed by Chefs Todd Richards and Duane Nutter, and will feature local and regional ingredients. Hopefully the website will provide more information and a menu in the near future, but it sounds worth checking out!

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) Art Exhibits

There are many artistic works distributed around the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL) to enjoy while you walk to your flight or during a layover or flight delay.

Before you enter the airport terminal, you will be greeted, at both the North and South Terminals, with large murals and suitcase sculptures. There are two youth galleries inside, one at the T-Gates centerpoint and another in the East Wing of Concourse E, and a wealth of other artworks awaiting your discovery throughout the complex.

ART FROM ZIMBABWE
These sculptures can be found in the transportation tunnel between the concourses underneath the airport

MURALS
The Atlanta Airport has many beautiful murals found throughout the concourses and terminal.

OUTDOOR ART
These are some of the artworks you can find outside the Airport.

Everywhere you look when you visit the Atlanta Airport, you'll see beautiful art from around the world. Below is just a sample of the Airport's collection.

QUILTS

ART at the Atrium

Airport's Art program (partnership with Fernbank Museum of Natural History) is currently displaying a Yangchuanosaurus skeleton in Hartsfield-Jackson's Atrium.

Rotating Art is also displayed in the Airport's Atrium lobby area.

Stone sculptures by Zimbabwean artists

The project also includes display cases featuring carving tools, miniature sculptures, and several 5' X 7.5' photomurals showcasing Zimbabwe's people, landscape, and wildlife beauty.

Youth Art exhibit artworks from schools throughout the State of Georgia. The Youth Art is located between gates 12 and 14.

ART at Concourse E

Youth Art exhibit completed by students in grades K-12 - elementary, middle and high school students. The Youth Art is rotated every three months. All other exhibits on Concourse E are permanent.

Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL) will be seeing extensive new shopping options starting to pop up starting this September. There will be many new accessory stores, convenience and news stores and apparel shops. There will even be a place where you can view a live "panda-cam" from the Atlanta Zoo! It looks like quite an interesting line-up!

Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (August 5) – Starting in September passengers and visitors to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will see the start of an expanded array of high-end and well-known products and services. The more than 70 new shops will enable the Airport to rightfully claim another positive attribute – an airport that is also an exciting shopping destination.

“Internationally recognized brands such as Blvgari, Salvatore Ferragamo, Sean John, Le Sport Sac, L’Occitane, Calvin Klein and Brooks Brothers are coming to the airport” said John Cugasi, Hartsfield-Jackson concessions director. “These brands are a part of the Airport’s new retail program designed to appeal to those who value a quality shopping environment. The shops will also reflect the rich cultural diversity that exists in Georgia.”

All Atlanta airport visitors, but especially native Georgians, will enjoy shopping at Georgia Aquarium, Savannah Candy Kitchen and Panda Veranda, a gift shop that will feature a live panda cam feed coming directly from Zoo Atlanta. Other stores having a Southern connection include Atlanta Daily World and Southern Living News, both newsstands.

“Our goal in opening these new shops is to not only meet the needs of our passengers and guests, but also provide them with a high-quality shopping experience,” said Cugasi. “The new shops will offer convenience, value and quality which we believe will meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers.”
